Ugh. Winter is the worst. It’s cold, gas and electric bills go up, and you’re stuck inside when you’re not outside skiing or building an igloo. And the worst of all is you have to wait until the spring to get anything done in terms of home improvement.
Hold your horses there, partner.
There’s a ton you can do to make your home a better place to be this winter. All you have to do is come into White’s Lumber and get the necessary supplies to weatherproof your home and improve the overall look and feel of your indoor space.
Save Money by Improving Insulation
Wearing a Snuggie and a winter jacket indoors isn’t the only way to save money on your gas and electric bills during the winter season. There are tons of things that you can do that will keep your electric bill down without having to bundle up in the comfort of your own home.
One simple way to do so is to create draft dodgers to get rid of drafts, using fabric and fiberfill you can place them at the bottom of doors and on window ledges. Another way is to get new weather stripping, and/or an all-new door and windows that seal the heat of your home inside and last a very very long time.
Sealing your home is important, that means filling in leaks along electrical boxes. Seal the small gaps around them with acrylic latex caulk and use foam sealant on large gaps.
Make sure your doors and windows are locked. You would be surprised how much simply locking things down can keep the cold from coming in when the winds of winter are roaring outdoors.
Make sure your heating registers are clear of lint, dust, and throw rugs. If the heat can’t come out of them then you’re paying for nothing. It’s a simple fix that can really make things toastier this winter.
Make Your Home a More Pleasant Place to be Stuck in.
Chances are you are going to be spending a lot more time indoors than you would in the spring, summer, or autumn. One of the best things you can do to make your time indoors more bearable is to make improvements to your home décor.
Changing your curtains to something brighter, and better insulated cannot only make the room feel warmer tonally but in actual temperature as well.
Painting your living room can help a lot to get over that seasonal sadness, lighten the mood and the color of your walls. Make them something fun and bright to cheer things up, we have a ton of paints in stock to help you out with this!
Change up your lighting. Changing your old bulbs out for energy efficient LEDs can not only save you a ton of money but brighten up your home for a longer time than those old-fashioned 60w bulbs you have in your fancy novelty lamps.
There are tons more that can be done too, but we’ll leave it there before a blog post turns into a winter renovation manifesto. If you want to know all the ways that you can turn your winter home into an oasis of comfort, come into White’s Lumber and talk to an expert member of our friendly staff!
